The cost of home foundation repair varies of
course, depending on what your problem is. If the foundation problem
is due to flooding then the first thing you will have do is get a
sump pump. Buying a suction or jet pump on average costs $400 and
up. Installing a submersible pump costs $800 or more.
If broken pipes cause the flooding then you are
looking at having to replace them. If this is what you are in for
then you can expect to pay about $2000 for one floor of the house if
the problem is widespread and affects a lot of pipe. This price is
for new copper galvanized piping.
If you need to do anything to the basement
floor including adjusting its underpinnings so that it slopes
towards a central drain to avoid flooding then you can expect to pay
a private contractor anywhere from $150 to $300 per square foot to
fix it. To repair a minor crack in a poured concrete foundation
caused by flooding costs between $400 and $800.
If your foundation walls need rebuilding most
contractors will charge you between $30 and $40 a foot. On top of it
all you will probably have to pay for sealants and rubber wall
membranes to keep water out if you live in a flood prone area or an
area where there is a lot of erosion and the soil is known to retain
water. This can add thousands of dollars to your bill so you need to
have a contingency for these little extras in case the contractor
springs it on you.
