Basement Waterproofing Floor Paint
Basement waterproofing floor paint. Is there
such a thing? The answer to this question is yes and no. In essence
you can paint a liquid membrane made of rubber and asphalt compound
onto your basement floor using a brush or spray gun. There are
definitely formulas out there on the market that are made for do it
yourself types and that are marketed as basement waterproofing.
However technically it is not paint but rather more like a coating.
In fact before you apply any type of basement
waterproofing floor paint you need to remove every last trace of
pigment from a painted concrete floor. Then after that you need to
remove every last trace of what you used to remove the paint from
the floor. This is because both regular colored paint and paint
removers can react with any type of basement waterproofing floor
paint and cause unpleasant chemical reactions including toxic fumes,
terrible odors and degradation of the final product so it cannot do
its job.
Yet another crucial thing to remember is that
floor must be completely clean of all dirt, dust and debris of all
kinds before you apply any type of product being marketed as a
basement waterproofing floor paint. This is because dirt has
bacteria in it that can also degrade this type of floor coating and
affect its ability to be waterproof.
Keep
in mind that no floor that is flooding is going to be protected by
waterproof paint. The best way to protect a floor from flooding is
to make sure that it has a drain.
