Do You Need a Waterproofing Contractor?

Should you do it yourself or should you hire a waterproofing contractor?  This might depend on the structure of your house and how bad your flooding or leaking problem actually is. If you are standing in an inch deep of water every time it rains then it is definitely time to hire a waterproofing contractor, as there is more than likely some kind of structural problem with your basement that needs to be quickly addressed. The reason such as problem needs to be fixed as fast as possible is because hydrostatic pressure (water build up behind a basement wall when it rains) is not something to be toyed with. It can actually collapse the foundation of your house.

If the water leaking into your house is just a trickle then you have no problem maybe patching the leak up yourself. However keep in mind that this requires fixing the leak on the wall facing out of your home. Sealants do not work applied where the water is running into your home. The actual water pressure is building up on the other side of the wall so it may require some digging.

Yet another big problem is that many waterproofing compounds don’t work unless all dirt and paint has been stripped off the wall. Any particles of dirt and paint have to be cleaned and then even sprayed with a pressure water gun. As this can be a big job that also requires you to have very good drainage in your basement to catch the dirty water from the pressure hose application then you could see why it might be a wise idea to hire a waterproofing contractor to do the job.
